My mission is simple: provide resources and tools that help both parents and children successfully navigate the challenges of dyslexia.

Dyslexia Decoded provides comprehensive support through executive function and reading coaching for learners and coaching and support groups for parents.

Empowerment of Parents: Highlighting your focus on supporting and empowering parents in navigating educational challenges.

Child-Centric Approach: Emphasizing the importance of fostering children's success through hard work and overcoming obstacles.

Providing Resources and Tools:  Equipping families with the necessary resources for building confidence and shaping their children's future.

I understand firsthand the challenges faced by families with dyslexic children because I have been there. As a parent of two dyslexic children, I know the feelings of hopelessness and the fear of the future. Knowing that every dyslexic learner is unique, I create individual paths to meet the needs and strengths of each learner and their families.

Why use a Dyslexia Parent Coach?

Parent coaching is a specialized service designed to provide support, guidance, and education to parents or caregivers of children with dyslexia. Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that affects not only reading and language processing skills, but also  impact various aspects of a child's academic and social development. Parent coaching aims to empower parents with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to effectively support their child's learning and well-being and build the necessary confidence that their child will need to thrive and ultimately be confident both in school and in life.

Here's why parent coaching for children with dyslexia is beneficial for families:

  • Understanding Dyslexia: Parent coaching helps parents better understand dyslexia—its characteristics, challenges, and strengths. This understanding is crucial for effectively supporting a child with dyslexia at home and advocating for their needs in educational settings. Learn from someone who has been in your shoes and understands the road ahead.

  • Personalized Strategies: Each child with dyslexia is unique, and parent coaching provides personalized strategies and techniques tailored to the specific needs and learning style of the child. These strategies may include methods for improving reading fluency, comprehension, executive function strategies, gaining commitment from your child and helping to build self-confidence in your child. I have two  adult children with dyslexia and their needs and accommodation were dramatically different while they were in the school system.

  • Advocacy and Support: Parent coaches can guide parents through the process of navigating school systems, including Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), accommodations, and services available for children with dyslexia. I will empower parents to advocate effectively for their child's educational rights and needs.

  • Behavioural and Emotional Support: Dyslexia can impact a child's self-esteem, motivation, and behaviour. Parent coaching equips parents with tools and techniques to address behavioral challenges and nurture their child's emotional well-being.

  • Collaboration with Professionals: Parent coaches collaborate with educators, psychologists, and other professionals to ensure holistic support for the child. They facilitate communication and teamwork among stakeholders involved in the child's education.

  • Building Parental Confidence: Parent coaching builds parental confidence and resilience, empowering parents to tackle challenges associated with dyslexia proactively and positively.

  • Access to Resources: Parent coaches provide access to valuable resources, such as recommended books, assistive technology, and community support groups, that can further support the child's learning and development.

  • Long-Term Success: By equipping parents with the knowledge and skills to support their child with dyslexia, parent coaching contributes to the child's long-term academic success, self-esteem, and overall well-being.

Parent coaching for children with dyslexia is a vital service that helps parents become knowledgeable advocates and effective supporters for their child's unique learning needs. It empowers parents to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where their child can thrive academically and emotionally despite the challenges of dyslexia.
